Welcome to The Constitute!

New weekly vlog from Pat Kane
2

Welcome to The Constitute! My name is Pat Kane, and this is a vlog that helps me - and hopefully you - make some sense of the torrent of stories about tech, culture and ideas storming down on us all. Interviews to come too.

[You won't have heard of "constitute" as a noun - here's my stab at a definition.]

This opening episode tries to use the PDFs I’ve downloaded to Apple Books from social media in any one week, as an indicator of some of my interests. The “constitute” is generally some kind of organisational ad-hoc structure that allows a loose hanging-together of elements (it’s not too far away from Deleuze and Guattari’s idea of an “assemblage” or “agencement”.)

That means it can be a meet in real life, a conversation string online, some mingling of both… We’re going to be flexible about it.

But anyway - the PDFs are below.

Neuroscience:

Conscious artificial intelligence and biological naturalism - Anil Seth

Shared subcortical arousal systems across sensory modalities during transient modulation of attention

Cooperation Theory:

Making Wales Work - Plaid Cymru’s new economic plan

ALTERNATIVE MODELS OF OWNERSHIP - Labour Party

Sociology of Music

Reflections of the Mercury Music Prize - an interview with Simon Frith

Strength in numbers: a social history of Glasgow's popular music scene (1979-2009)

OK, first tentative effort, tell me what you think. If you’d like me to talk to your network or organisation about any of these topics, please contact me here.
